Signage Spotlight is a collaborative magazine between Gemini and the Mumbai branch of KGL Ltd. Gemini provides the content and KGL assembles the working files.
I was assigned as the creative lead for the August and November issues, responsible for creating layouts and assets, photographing the cover, and directing KGL on proper content placement.
The primary goal for both publications was to refresh the layouts and create a more engaging reading experience, while staying aligned with Gemini’s branding guidelines.
Additionally, custom graphics and callouts were requested as alternative visuals to enhance article content beyond what photos alone could achieve.
The process was done in phases and began with creating thumbnails of layout concepts, which were sent to KGL along with the content for the magazine. Once assembled, a PDF preview was sent back to determine if the layout was effective.
I provided feedback on the proof if major changes were needed. Minor adjustments were handled on my end once proofing was complete. The process was the same for both issues I worked on.
Distinct cover colors are used for each issue to reinforce visual identity and recognizability. Teal was chosen for August as it complemented the cover image and was a tertiary color of the two previous issues. A shade of orange was chosen for November as it relates to autumn.
Gemini’s brand colors are present, but limited to enhancing headings and subheadings. The intention behind this was to distinguish article changes in a more impactful manner.
In addition to Gemini’s brand typefaces, Nimbus Sans Condensed is used exclusively for the magazine. Its form adapts aspects of both Frutiger and DDC, making for a uniquely eye-catching font for alternative headings.

Both outcomes brought the envisioned layouts to life, refreshing the aesthetics while keeping the identities consistent with previous issues.
This project taught me how to direct and oversee the execution of my designs rather than executing them myself. Taking on a creative director role deepened my understanding of the iterative process and gave me a newfound respect for those who lead professional projects.
